George W. Spangler born Feb. 24, 1759

Listed as a Patriot in 1776, latter was a member of Capt. George Eichelberger's Co, then became Lieutenant of the Second Co, Third Battalion York Militia and marched with his Battalion in 1776 to New Jersey to form the Flying Camp.

He was Lieutenant, Colonel of the 113th Regiment York Co Militia in 1801.   In 1814 he was with the York Militia Camp on the Commons in York numbered 6,000 .  Ready to repel the British attack on baltimore.

In 1816 the Laurel Fire Co was reorganized, the meeting was held at his house, he was elected to President of the Laurel.

In 1825 he was on the committee to arrange for the reception of Gen. Lafayette back to York

He kept tavern at the Large Brick Spangler House Mansion on Plank Road. This house was standing until it was torn down when the York bypass was built.   (In 1889  George Spangler the writer  of the Spangler Anuals wrote)   "warned" that this house should have been preserved for History, but no one was interested ?????
